ICMA's Military Programs assist communities with closed bases and support those with active installations by working to strengthen the relationship and promote information sharing between federal and local entities. Local governments, military installations, and other stakeholders benefit from sharing information on resources, land-use planning, best practices, technical assistance, and environmental problem solving.

ICMA's Military Programs comprise three primary areas:

  • The Base Reuse program primarily consists of the Base Reuse Consortium (BRC) and serves as an information and research center for issues and activities related to base closure, cleanup, and reuse
  • The Military Communities program researches issues related to active base-community relations and works with local and federal organizations to disseminate information
  • The Installation Management program shares resources with military partners and offers installation management professionals access to training, professional development, and membership opportunities.
